The first Milwaukee Gateway Sign was unveiled Thursday, September 28, 2006 on the Howell Avenue boulevard in front of Mitchell International Airport. Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett was on hand to lead the ceremonies for the official unveiling. It was a proud day for Triad Creative Group's president Roger Lex who designed the signs chosen for the Gateway Signage Project. Underwritten by the Milwaukee Brewers and other local corporations the "Gateway Landmarks" will be installed at key locations leading to downtown Milwaukee. Bearing the silhouette of the art museum's brise soleil, the signs will say "Milwaukee, Home of 'a corporate sponsor'". The signs are 20 feet tall and range in width from 6 to 8 feet. They will be illuminated at night.	Roger Lex and Mayor Tom Barrett at the unveiling.
In addition to the Brewers, whose sign was the first to be installed, other companies involved are: We Energies, Mark Travel/Funjet, and the Marcus Corporation. The city is hoping to enlist additional companies in its campaign to brighten up the boulevards and create a more welcoming image for the City of Milwaukee.
